Hi! Welcome to Powerful Learning Practices! (PLP) My name is Cary Harrod. I live in a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. I have been happily married for 13 years to Bill, who works full time as a banker and even more full time as my biggest champion. We have a 12 year old son, Liam, who inspires me to keep searching for ways to more fully engage young learners. I enjoy reading, traveling, spending time with my family/friends and learning.

After spending 19 years in the elementary classroom, I am enjoying my fourth year as the District Technology Specialist. One of my primary responsibilities is leading a group of more than 100 teachers, grades K-12, in a technology project for our district. Each teacher has been given a tablet pc, projector and speakers. Along with learning about these amazing technologies, we are exploring the ways in which web 2.0 applications can support and enhance teaching and learning.

This is my second year as a fellow for PLP. Simply stated, my experience with PLP has been transformational, both personally and professionally. The power of PLP is the opportunity it affords participants to immerse themselves in a 21st Century learning environment, thus bringing clarity to the vision of what learning might look like in this Century. I now have a robust learning network of people who serve as my any time/anywhere personal professional development. Through this experience, I have gained a solid understanding of how technology can be authentically connected to content and pedagogy, resulting in deeper, more engaged learning.

I am sincerely looking forward to working with all members of this cohort. It will undoubtedly be a year of tremendous growth. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you!wordle.jpg
